Things to Do in Harbor Springs, Michigan
- Nub’s Nob –
If you’re visiting this destination during the wintertime, then Nub’s Nob is the place to be! This ski area has been helping travelers ski, snowboard and enjoy the snow for almost 60 years. They have 53 slopes with trails on three different peaks. Did we mention they serve homemade food and have a friendly staff that’ll help you learn the ropes? Ranked as one of North America’s biggest and best ski resorts, this is the place to be when the weather drops! Children eight and under ski free, so it’s a nice spot to take the kids. - Pond Hill Farm –
Pond Hill Farm offers farmland to explore and their livestock barn is open year-round. Kids and adults can feed their cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and geese during their visit. Many travelers will hike through their woods for a view of Lake Michigan and the countryside from the top of their vineyard. During the summer they offer hayrides to see Trout Pond and their beautiful fields. In addition to the farm, there’s also a winery and brewery as well as a cafe to satisfy your palate. - Golfing –
If hitting the links is your thing, you’re in the right place. In Harbor Springs alone, there are almost a dozen golf courses for beginners and skilled putters alike. Take a look at Little Traverse Bay Golf Course, Boyne Highlands and True North Golf Club to start. - Thorne Swift Nature Preserve –
They have a frog pond, lake vista, beautifully maintained trails and more at Thorne Swift Nature Preserve. There’s an information center you should be sure to stop by and they’ll point you to the best spots to bird watch or see special kinds of flowers. Enjoy a leisurely walk to relax on the beach with a good book and soak up the sun. - Pleasantview Winery-
Wine connoisseurs rejoice! In addition to the winery and brewery mentioned above at Pond Hill Farm, there’s more places to savor the sweet (or dry) taste of grapes in Michigan. What To Pack
If you plan on skiing while you’re in Michigan, you know the drill. Pack layers so you can easily strip off any wet outer layers and stay warm and bundled from the snow. If you’re coming in the summertime, nights can still be chilly. Be sure to check out the high and low temperatures for Harbor Springs at the top of this page and pack some sweaters or long sleeves to throw on at night. - The area of Petoskey is named after Michigan’s state stone, which can be found along the shores of Lake Michigan.
- Michigan has more shoreline than any state, with the exception of Alaska. It’s also very wet inland too; there’s over 11,000 lakes and 36,000 miles of streams.
- Traverse City is the cherry tart (AKA pie) capital of the world. Every year they host a week-long National Cherry Festival in July.
- Fear not! Although Michigan is known as the “Wolverine State,” there are no longer any wolverines in the state. One was spotted in 2004, however, that was the first found in over 200 years.
- Almost four hours from your destination is the World’s Largest Weather Vane, a 48-foot tall display on the corner of Dowling and Water Streets.
