Things to Do in Maui
- Haleakala Crater –
Your visit to Haleakalā National Park might include a glimpse of a rare native bird, a hands-on experience with Hawaiian culture, breezes through the bamboo forest or warm sun on your back as you hike a volcanic landscape. The park is also a part of the National Natural Landmarks (NNL) Program that recognizes and encourages the conservation of sites that contain outstanding biological and geological resources. - Ka’anapali Beach Maui –
This Beach is often thought of as one of the best beaches in Maui. Black Rock is a popular area that divides the beach in half and is renowned for terrific snorkeling. Services and amenities include lifeguards, restrooms, showers, great swimming when calm, amazing snorkeling and beautiful sunsets. - Sight seeing and tours –
Maui is full of treasures that you’ll want to make sure you experience. You can go on whale watching tours with experienced tour guides such as Triology Excursions, which also offer snorkeling, scuba and dolphin watching. If you want to get the view from above, try hang gliding, Hang Gliding Maui offers powered flights for first time pilots as well as those with experience. - Wai’anapanapa State Park –
Remote, wild, low-cliffed volcanic coastline offers a view into ancient Hawaii and gives travelers an excellent opportunity to see seabird colony and the legendary cave, heiau (religions temple) which was created from a natural stone arch complete with black sand beach. - Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery-
Handcrafted on the beautiful island of Maui, OCEAN Organic Vodka is the only spirit in the world made with deep ocean mineral water. The high mineral content of the water imparts a unique character to the vodka and adds great depth of flavor to the traditional vodka cocktail. - Traditional Surfing, Kite Surfing & Windsurfing –
Surfing in the United States was born in Hawaii and if you are going to enjoy the sport as a seasoned veteran or beginner, Maui is the place. Shops like Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy offer great instructors and awesome customer service. - Napili Beach for Swimming and Snorkeling-
Napili Beach is known for its shimmering blue water and beautiful white sand. Located on Maui’s northwestern coast, Napili Bay is situated between two rocky points. The ocean bottom is sandy though it gets deep relatively quickly. A strong shore break during the winter months provides waves for surfers and body boarders - Drive Through a Rain Forest –
Rated a “Drive of a Lifetime” by National Geographic, the Hana Highway measures more than 60 miles long. The highway features a whopping 620 curves and 59 bridges. Get up early, grab the camera and drive through waterfalls, seascapes and pools.

What To Pack
Everyone wears T-shirts, shorts and flip-flops because of the gorgeous weather! Make sure to bring sunscreen and sunglasses or even a hat to keep yourself protected from the rays. Hiking shoes if you’re planning to visit the volcanic crater. Everything for swimming, multiple bathing suits, including one for water sport activities. There are some dressy places to dine, but most of Maui is very casual.
Transport
There are about 25 rental car companies on the Island, which is why rates are so reasonable – they all must compete for business. There is a public transportation bus system that runs on Maui, but it may not be the best option for visitors traveling with small children. The public transportation system is quite extensive and most fares range between $1 and $3 per ride, however a few of the routes are free. Bus schedules are available in hotels and they are also posted on the Maui County website. For anyone wanting to feel the wind in their hair, motorcycles, mopeds and scooters are also available for rental. Using one of these vehicles to traverse the Island is a unique way to see the sights. Most of the motorcycles, mopeds and scooters available can be rented either by the hour, by the day or by the week.

- Maui is Hawaii’s second largest island and has a population of under 200,000
- In Maui, you will find three different sand colors: black, white and red. Black sand is created by the island’s pulverized lava rock that makes up most of its composition. Coral and shells help create white sand and many Maui beaches feature the classic color. Red sand also comes from lava, however its coloration is due to iron-rich content.
- Haleakala, Maui’s most famous volcano, is the largest dormant volcano in the world. The crater is 21 miles across and 4,000 feet deep… that’s large enough to hold the island of Manhattan!
